You'll need a lot of patience, even more 'sorry' coming out of you, and lots of suppressing own ego.
That is, if you care enough to do that. But if you come with that kind of question, looks like you do.

Sometimes, just saying "sorry" doesn't cut it, especially in your case. Besides, its just a word coming from your mouth that doesn't really show how you really mean it from your heart.
You have to try to convince them how sorry you are/you will mend your ways etc.
You can do what trish said but put it in a way that shows how guilty/sad you felt after what happened and that you really mean it. Then control yourself and make sure you don't do the same thing again.

I'd just not be spiteful when not talking to them, it's just counter-productive
to make your way in to communicate with the person if they intend you not to :/
